Vasquez Does Indeed Rock

On Saturday some friends and I decided to go hiking and geo-caching at Vasquez Rock.

Basically Geo-Caching is like treasure hunting with a GPS except it's not like pirate treasure but random little toys and fun things that people put together and hide.

I had fun. That's kind of an understatement being that at one point I decided to run down a hill and it was just so freeing I just had to laugh out of simple joy. From then on I went down every hill with a huge smile on my face, giggling because nothing could stop me.

Can't believe tomorrow is December 1st. Where did the year go?

Great and Bad

Natalie Portman on the cover of this month's V Magazine.

I actually feel very out of the loop since I just not found out about this. I hope it's still in stores because I do love Natalie Portman.

And for a week old story: "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" - Kate Moss

HILARIOUS. How about some fresh baked brownies?

madewell

I can't stop obsessing about Madewell. I realized today, after changing outfits 3 times and finally putting on my typical 'go-to' pieces, that I love Madewell. Thus if you're thinking about Birthday/Christmas presents, I would very much appreciate some Madewell gift cards.

(The image above is from last winter's collection at Madewell)

The other day my mom and I went shopping around Pasadena and made a stop at the Kate Spade store where I came across this awesome hair pin. It was just as adorable in person but then I came across the same little bow on a pair of stud earrings. I was absolutely taken and irresponsibly bought them. I haven't worn them yet but I promise you, as long as I'm doing anything slightly holiday related, I will be sporting them with a giant smile on my face.

Aside from my spending and shopping habits, I must say life is grand.

-I enjoy my part time design job at Twirls and Twigs.
-I very much enjoy meeting with my Garden Community Group.
-I can't wait to feast on a giant Thanksgiving meal with the Wu's followed by a 2nd meal with my own family.
-I can't wait to see what else God has planned for me

Kate Spade

When did I begin to love Kate Spade so much?

I guess it's when I decided that I couldn't deny my love for bows and all things slightly kitschy without being tacky.

Anyway...

I heart bows and I heart Christmas. This is kind of the best of both worlds.

For 45$...it's ridiculous but if I'm having a bad day I just might have to splurge lol

Also another one of my fashion loves is Madewell. I finally found time to go to their Denim Night Out events and it was pretty fun. Free snacks and drinks, a DJ, really helpful sales associates, and great deals.

I want this bicycle...

so pretty.

Rodarte for Target

Rodarte for Target is officially a go and for once I'm going to make an effort to go out to Target to see the small collection.

I got the latest Teen Vogue in the mail today with a very pretty looking Dakota Fanning on the cover. In it, teen blogger Tavi is wearing a piece from the Rodarte for Target collection and through out the magazine are other pieces from the collection. I kind of want a pretty dress for 40$. I just need a place to wear it to.

In other news, I spent the day in beautiful Ojai, CA on a ranch with the people of Right Bank Babies helping out with the Fall/Winter photoshoot. It was tons of fun, too bad no one has the funds to hire me :/

Found these shoes at Nordstroms the other day

KATE SPADE

The pictures does not do it justice, it's a little bit more pink and really sparkly.

When did I become such a girl.

prep

How much do I love J.Crew's Spring 2010 collection?

(photos by John Aquino/WWD)

I love it just as much as I love elephants, cuddly dinosaurs, and pop rocks...that means a lot.

I think I'm just meant to keep things clean and slightly preppy.

***in other news***

I've been working part-time with Twirls and Twigs for the last 3 weeks. The drive can be annoying and things can get crazy busy but I'm really starting to be content with the typical LA rush hour traffic, and enjoy the crazy. I work well under pressure... I think I kind of thrive off of it. We'll see where this takes me.

Also, I've been helping out with Harvest Festival preparations at The Garden. I've realized how much I missed being involved in the church community and I'm so glad to finally be a part of such a great one. I also can't wait to wear my dino-girl costume all night (:

(this is my attempt to restart my blog)

It's the end of August and I'm still in LA

(: So Ugil starts his last semester at CSUN today and last night it came to our attention that while he starts classes again, I'm STILL in LA. It's kind of a big milestone for us being that for the last 4 years, I would fly away to NY this time of year.

As for me, I still don't have a job. I've worked little jobs (short internships, freelancing) but nothing permanent. I get really frustrated but I'm trying very hard not to get too discouraged.

memories

So Ugil came by and helped me pull out an old bike from the garage and wheel it over to the gas station to pump some air in the tires. I'm super glad we did it because I ended up riding my bike to a meeting to look over my linesheets, then just rode around my little neighborhood. Good stuff. I would still love one of these those...

I also spend the weekend in SF with lovely Courtney (:

Awesome times

the Good life

So as much as I want to give a general overview about what I've been up to since graduation and my move across the country and back home, I won't.

Because all you need to know is that God's love is unimaginably good.

I keep saying it and I won't stop saying it. I'm realizing how blessed I am to have a great family and great friends. And since graduation God has poured out so much of His Love onto me in ways that I could never have even hoped for. I know that many of my friends are stressed out looking for a job and trying to figure out how to handle 'the future' and wondering which steps to take, and yeah of course I've had my fair share of panic attacks before, but school got out and I've been so much at peace with myself and my life and yet, so blessed with random opportunities to go on interviews, meet people in my field, and even land a sweet freelancing job.

God is Good and if you give Him the opportunity you can experience it for yourself.

keep moving

I've been back in Burbank for a week now but today I'm off to spend the weekend in San Francisco. I can't wait to explore the city with choffy.

I promise I'll update when I get back with an actual update on my life.

I'll just say that God is Good and exciting things are happening (:

I just hope that by the time I get back on Monday, the gloom will be forever gone. I've been dying to wear shorts, sandals, and dresses.

good bye new york

My 4 years here have been memorable. School was challenging, adjusting to the city was fun, and through it all I met some really great people (:

I had a good time and will definitely miss some things about this city like friends, lombardi's, pizza, uniqlo, shopping, and magnolia bakery banana pudding.

But its time for a change and I can't wait to see what God has in store for me back at home in sunny LA.

happy

"When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment and I told them they didn’t understand life."

I Am a Graduate of the Parsons Fashion Department

I graduated yesterday and as much as I want to say that it was the best 4 years of my life thus far, I really can't. It was literally full of blood, sweat, many many tears, and a ridiculous amount of stress, and I am certain that no one but my fellow classmates will truly understand.

One of the girls that gave a speech yesterday said it best when she said that once we decided that this was the school we were headed to, we really sold our souls. Other people were on their way to gaining an undergraduate education...we basically got a full time job with no summer break, winter break, spring break, or thanksgiving break. And as much as I would have loved to slack off, I just couldn't let myself.

But after 4 years of non-stop hard work, I have to say that this last month has been incredibly rewarding. Before beginning my thesis collection I told myself that I don't need anyone's approval and that in the end, I need to be happy and proud of the outcome...and I am. I really really am happy not only with my thesis collection but of who I've become.

As much as I complain and complain about the school, I'm grateful for what I've learned, the relationships that I've made, and that I can say that I'm a Parsons Fashion Alumn like so many other designers before me. AND I really don't like living in the city. It definitely has its charms but in the end I'll always be a California girl, but more on that later (:

the most of it

I cannot wait to go home but for now, I'm really trying to make most of my time here (:

The other day I met up again with the lovely children's wear ladies for dinner at Dos Caminos. It was so good, kind of pricey but totally worth it because the guacamole was amazing.

Anita, a great friend from high school came into the city. She may be going to NYU grad school thus I happily took the time to show her around the city. I had such a great time with her.

4 years

Last night was the annual Parsons Benefit Gala where the seniors got to celebrate and honor fashion icons Francisco Costa (Calvin Klein designer), Tom Murray (CEO of CK), and Cathy Horyn (NY Times fashion writer).

I had a great time hanging out with friends (: It was 4 tough years but I'm glad I stuck with it.

something about balloons make me so happy

I can't wait to watch Up this summer. It looks like a winner.

My mom just got into the city today (: we're gonna do what we do best and shop tomorrow...it is how we get prime mother-daughter time.

Also....there is approximately 35 1/2 hours left until my presentation...I just can't wait for it to be done.

I am absolutely smitten over Misha Lulu's Spring 2009 collection.

I discovered her when I was working at a Jumping Jelly last summer and have been pretty obsessed since, but this collection is absolutely darling.

alone but not lonely

During my 4 years in the city, I was never able to get completely plugged into a church. I am slightly disappointed in myself and I have to admit that I made excuses as to why I couldn't go to small groups or make time to go to church events. Although I regularly went to and continue to attend church on Sundays and occasionally read through some devotional books, my walk isn't where it should be and lately I've really been longing for something more.

I now know how important it is to belong to a community, a group of people who have the same faith.

Not sure where I'm going with this...I guess it's just one of the things that I regret and have definitely learned from.

I follow this blog titled 'cakies' and she recently posted this. It really made me happy and it might make you smile too.

Golden Rule

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

It's referred to as a 'golden rule' for a reason and I think often times, it's completely overlooked or totally shrugged off. Lately I've been very conscious of this saying and have been trying to live by it, although of course not 100% of the time (it's hard).

But being kind and offering a hand is one thing, but what do you do when your hand becomes a doormat? Are you supposed to just stop and be selfish, or shrug it off and continue even when your actions and words aren't exactly reciprocated or appreciated? If you know me well, you know that this is and has always been a problem for me.

Well after a series of events I think I'm going to start figuring it all out, it'll get messy but I'm up for it.

....

On a lighter note (: I'm going to be handing in all of my garments on Thursday.
woo hoooo!!

I also bought a one-way ticket back to California for only 99$ what a deal. I'll be back home at 9:56 pm on June 2.

round and round

LOVE these bicycles from Velorbis

I really really want a bicycle when I go back home after graduation...most people would aim for a car but I would LOVE one of these (:
